Every sport event, especially world-wide, has its own Symbol or Talisman. This tradition became in the far 1968, at the Winter Olympic games in Grenoble. Since that time talismans are integral attributes of all Olympiads and sport competitions.
The pawn is chosen as the IV World Blitz Chess Championship’s symbol because of its fundamentality in chess. Exact sciences say that everything in the world has its own unit. Current strength is measured in ampere, weight – in gram, heat – in calorie, power – in watt, etc.
Amazing, but it is fact, that there is its own unit in chess science. And this is pawn. Chess starts with pawn. French chess player and theorist of XVIII century François-Andre Danican Philidorsaid, that “Pawn – is the soul of game of chess”, because the pawns arrangement structure determines the strategy of game of chess.
Only dilettanti can say, that pawn is a weak piece. Saadi Shirazi said “The circle of years is changing. Don’t you wait, but the pawn becomes queen”. For example, passed pawn increase greatly in importance in the endgame. A pawn that advances all the way to the opposite side of the board (the opposing player's first rank) is promoted to another piece of that player's choice of a queen, rook, bishop, or knight of the same color. The pawn is immediately (before the opposing player's next move) replaced by the new piece.
Pawn is chosen as the IV World Blitz Chess Championship’s symbol because of its simplicity, honesty and availability as the World Blitz Chess Championship, conducting in Kazakhstan.
Chess-field of four squares is chosen as a background, because it is the main zone of pawn’s activity. The colors of symbol are black and white, tradition of chess, customary trait of chess-board and pieces.
According to Japanese and Chinese traditions black color means honesty and justice. And the symbol says, that exactly these qualities are important for every sport competition. White color has the power of equality and fairness. White color means unity in mythology.
