«Alatau» sanatorium

Sanatorium-and-spa complex “Alatau” is situated in Almaty suburb, at Zailiy Alatau submountains at the height about 1000 metres above sea level near the medicinal mineral spring. This is complex, including medical-sanitary and cultural and entertainment spheres. It was one of the leading sanatoriums of Communist Party Central Committee in USSR times. To receive medical treatments and to rest here were available only for ministers and top-managers of Communist Party. Half hour from the center of Almaty – and citizens and guests of south capital can admire eastern exotic, western modern, richness of Zailiy Alatau nature.  Sanatorium today is not only health resort, but the favorite place for young people’s rest. You can find swimming pool, aqua park, sauna, open tennis-court, volleyball and basketball fields, billiard, table-tennis here. The most active persons can play paintball. There is special paintball field in “Alatau”, where you can have safety equipment and pneumatic weapon. It’s possible to boat and to fish in the beautiful lake.

This sanatorium is well-known to the golf-players not only in Kazakhstan, but in the world. The best in Central Asia 18-holed golf-field is situated on its territory.

IV World Blitz Chess Championship was finished by unexpected victory of grand master from Cuba Leinier Dominguez Perez, who played with 15 great blitz-players in the world. Chess-player from Cuba won 8 games and didn’t lose no one, so he took 11,5 scores.
World Blitz Champion 2007 Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukrain) took 2nd place with 11 scores. Five times champion of Russia Peter Svidler became bronze medalist with 10 scores.
08.11.08 display of multi-board chess-play of honorable guest of the Championship, 12th World Champion Anatoly Karpov with 15 chess fancies from Kazakhstan was held.  Prize-winner of VIII international Seimar Chess Tournament among children and youth Yaroslav Ryabov draw with legendary chess-player.
The opening ceremony of the IV WBCC was conducted on November, 7 at 7 PM. FIDE president Kirsan Ilumzhinov, even office’s chief, mayor of Almaty Akhmetzhan Esimov and Kazakhstan Chess federation president Margulan Seisembaev made welcoming speeches on the ceremony.
